SUNDAYS IN MAY • 1:10 PM

Practice mindfulness all month-long with our Meditation May series, featuring classes every Sunday afternoon, each one focusing on a different type of meditation. Allow our expert instructor, Laura Anderson, to guide you through an intentional experience as you realign your chakras and engage in mindfulness for enhanced spiritual wellness. Enjoy all four classes in the month, or choose your favorite(s) to attend. This series is open to the public.

Week 1 - May 7 • Metta Meditation

Metta Meditation, or loving-kindness meditation, is a Buddhist practice for cultivating compassion for ourselves and others through directing loving, friendly phrases and goodwill. This class will focus on compassion as it originates from the historical Buddha’s early discourse on immeasurable friendliness, the Metta Sutta. The word “metta” is a Pali word, most often translated as loving-kindness, but has also been translated as universal goodwill or loving-friendliness.

Week 2 - May 14 • Yoga Nidra

Reach the level of zen you've been dreaming about as you practice Yoga Nidra in this sleep-inducing class. Yoga Nidra literally means yogic sleep and originates from an ancient technique where the practitioner enters the deep states of conscious relaxation.  It is a systematic practice of moving awareness from our external world to the inner world.

Week 3 - May 21 • Gratitude Meditation

This guided meditation asks the practitioner to give their sole attention to aspects of their body and circumstances that they can experience gratitude for. Many of the attributes of our lives are taken for granted so by finding gratitude for fundamental things such as eye-sight or provision or relationships we heighten our feelings of contentedness which is an essential part of experiencing joy.

Week 4 - May 28 • Mindfulness Meditation (Vipassana)

The word Vipassana means “seeing things as they really are.” In this meditation experience we will sit uninterrupted for a period of time with eyes closed and use breath awareness to assist in the singular focus of present moment awareness. The techniques of this practice will be explored and then practiced for about 20 minutes.
